Food Additives to Avoid

If you have ever been to one of Jennifer Glacken’s nutrition seminars, you know that she shares a list of the top ten additives to avoid.

Additives to avoid:

  • Aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal) – a known neurotoxin

  • BHA, BHT, TBHQ (Used as a preservative) – causes aggressive behavior in laboratory animals

  • Blue #1, Blue #2 (Banned in Finland)

  • BVO (Brominated Vegetable Oil) Emulsifier/clouding agent – Bromate is a poison

  • Citrus Red #2 (Carcinogen)

  • MSG and Quinine – triggers asthma attacks and headaches

  • Red #3, Red #40 (Carcinogen) Banned in 1990 until supplies run out

  • Saccharin (Banned 10 years ago) – known carcinogen

  • Sodium Nitrate (Preservative to prevent spoilage) – converts into nitrites in the gastrointestinal tract. Nitrates are cancer causing compounds

  • Yellow #6 – Banned in Norway and Sweden
