Who do you think stretches more – men or women?
Women are the correct answer! Men seem primarily interested in weights. However, many men who are strong with weights have low back issues. The primary culprit is stiff hamstrings, stiff quads and stiff hip flexors. You may not think that having stiff leg muscles can cause low back pain, but it will and it does. Your leg muscles join your pelvis. If those muscles are tight, they will throw your pelvis off kilter, which equals low back pain.
Men must learn to make leg and hip stretching a priority. A good way to start is by taking up yoga in addition to your regular strength training. Yoga isn’t just for women anymore. Ask Matt – he takes a yoga class every Friday with Pam and loves it. He is far more flexible and does not have the tight muscles issues that had caused him problems in the past.
